I moved to New York 20 years ago this month with no job, a little money saved up from working summers in construction and some that my grandfather left me when he died. I gave myself 2 years to “make it” in the city before I’d throw in the towel and move back home. I didn’t know anyone other than my 2 roommates Jon Reese and Dan Cafarelli – we rented a 1 bedroom and put up fake walls to turn it into a 3 bed. My room was half the living room and Dan’s was half the kitchen. Jon got the actual bedroom because he had a “real” job. Everyday I’d say “Ready Set GO!” and try to “make it.” What a time. I didn’t take a whole lot of photos back then on my Palm Treo phone, but I dug these up in the archives. Peter Pan once said to never grow up because once you do, you can never go back.

Kevin Bacon! Few years later but I just found this photo and I love it. Kevin was a lot to deal with though. 1: he would only eat cottage cheese with Cheerios. Like that’s literally the only thing I could get him to eat. And 2: he would only sleep in my armpit. Literally. The only reason I don’t have him now is because when I got him, I was told he was a teacup pig, but that was a lie because he got real big real fast and not only was I not allowed to have pets in the apartment I rented, but I definitely didn’t have enough room for a big potbelly pig.

First day filming Million Dollar Listing New York in 2010. This shot would go on to be one of the most famous openings in any reality TV show in the universe. To do this day, people stop me on the street and ask me to do this pose where I hold the lapels of my suit jacket. I’m fine with it because I literally do this pose to this actual day. I don’t like change.
