I always knew I wanted to start my own company. I just never knew when, or if I’m being honest with you, WHAT that company would do. I started my first company when I was 10 years old. We sold firewood. That company lasted one day. It was terrible. Managing employees (my little brother) and difficult clients (a guy down the street) was awful. My second company was started on September 15, 2020, and that was @serhant. On September 15, 2008, 12 years prior, I got my real estate license, and Lehman Brothers filed for bankruptcy that same morning, kicking off the subprime mortgage collapse and the great recession. Solid timing. It was only fitting to start the company on the same day… in the middle of a global pandemic, in a city that was completely shut down.

I took a lot of photos in the time leading up to the start of the business that I’ve never really shared before. So here are a few that make me tear up. “It was best of times and it was the worst of times.” That quote is so true. Because as awful as that time was for so many different reasons for so many different people, it was so awesome in hindsight.

I REALLY made the decision to start the company in the summer of 2017, but it took me until the summer of 2019 to feel ready. By that point, we had launched Serhant Media Group and were driving organic lead flow at a pace we couldn’t keep up with through social, and we had launched Sell It like Serhant online that August, and were making $100, 000 per day in course and memberships. So I had the 3 Cs: content, community, and commerce. All organic. Our plan was to announce the company on July 1, 2020 but then people started getting sick in March and then the world shut down.
